About
My name is Maria Tran
Founder | CEO | Creative Producer & Director
My parents were refugees from Vietnam, and growing up Asian-Australian, I longed to see diversity on screens. I graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology in 2007 and made a sleuth of martial arts short films on the weekends that would put the community on screen.
After waiting a long time for the industry to change, I decided to create a female-led company in 2017 with only one camera, a tripod, and a can-do attitude, believing that change can happen one film at a time.
Since then, we've grown to 30+ associate artists and content creators, producing over 200+ videos, short films, feature films, promotional campaigns, exhibitions, and events across Australia and now in the USA.
Phoenix Eye represents creatives who may have nothing to start with; however, with courage and by using their own hands and senses, they create works that are exciting, innovative, and bring communities together.
The artists here are all 'doers.' Interns who come under the wing of Phoenix Eye will learn to be multi-dynamic creatives who can shoot, edit, direct, and improvise.
To this day, I'm still a slashie and shoot and edit a lot of projects. The team and I are very practical, and through lived experience, we gain the upper advantage and creative know-how.
We are all endowed with creativity, storytelling, and connection, and harmony is a part of the reason why we are here on the planet.
